An Amazing Video of Steve McCurry Making the Pirelli Calendar in Rio

And watch how he uses hand held LED panels and larger LED panels on stands as his light sources. It's a great video and a beautifully done project:

Warning!!!! great images of fully clothed women.

Note: Steve McCurry is an extremely well known National Geographic photographer whose work in Afghanistan (inlcuding the iconic woman against the green wall) made him world famous.

Hit this link for an interview. When you see the top photo you'll know exactly which image I was referring to: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/100best/multi1_interview.html

Lots of amazingly talented people out there. He's one.

Thanks to ultra observant VSL reader, Gerald, for the heads-up on this one. Well done.

  2. Amazing to watch his assistants just handholding small LED panels. Sure makes the BHS videos we're usually treated to look overdone and really lame...

  3. Thanks for the link Kirk! Great watch and fascinating watching how Steve approached a genre that is a bit alien to him, OK so watching all those ugly women was hard work but gotta be done. :-)

  6. Steve McCurry is one of my photographic heroes (present company included). His portraits are like spy glasses into the soul. So very interesting to see him working this and I will be very, very curious to see the end result. I certainly can't fault the source material as being uninteresting! :)

  7. I'm really surprised how much grunge and tone mapping he added to the backgrounds in post.

  8. Thanks for the link Kirk ! I just LOVE how he photographed those women, really bringing the each's personality to the table (on top of their sheer beauty). The pregnant is really special. A pretty good surprise that Pirelli would take that slightly different approach.
