I was so excited by the Sony A7Riii announcement, and the afterglow of the Nikon D850 announcements, that I pre-ordered something.

It's the Olympus 45 f1.2 Pro lens. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a great lens and I'm equally sure I won't be able to use it on either of the cameras in the headline.

I'm so impressed by the Olympus Pro lenses I've been buying that I'm started to consider the cameras just an accessory.

I am preparing myself to be wowed!!!

Also, an announcement. Tomorrow is my birthday. I have a job booked from 7am till 4pm, and must attend a wedding out at a ranch that starts at 5:30pm (No, I am not the photographer...). I may not have time to squeeze in a swim tomorrow, much less a blog post. I'll look around and see if our impresario, Charlie Martini, has anything in the hopper he can offer to fill the space.  tempus fugit

    Please, when you write up your impressions of the lens try to not make it too tempting. I have all the lenses I really need and I'm way over budget on photo stuff for this year.

    Kirk, I'll be 66 in January, and am still very passionate about creating images. I am no swimmer but cyclist - I go from road biking to mountain biking and to fat biking almost every day of the year, depending on the season.     Happy Birthday tomorrow! Have a great day despite the job, the wedding may be a good opportunity to cut loose a bit. I have the nocticron, the 75 F1.8 and the 25 F1.2, they're all fantastic lenses, the 25 is a thing of beauty, there are no regrets.

    f 2.4, 90mm in ff terms should have you set for the shallow dof portraits ;) Then you are spared the pain of adapters and speed boosters i have been ranting about in some comments! Looking at the price of this one, the speedbooster and a ff lens is a cheaper option for me though :D and my 24mm f1.4 becomes a 15mm f0,9. That one is not made in native mount yet. But its slows the AF and adds more glass and makes it more heavy. Lots of tradeoffs. But still think you should try one out when you get the chance. Especially for video it shines as most of the downsides of the adapter gets taken out off play.

    the tokina 11-16 f2.8 is a gem combined with the xl speedbooster for video. It gets you f1.8, 7-10mm and is vinette free in video even in full sensor readout. has a little at 11m when taking stills though.

    If i had a bigger budget i would get more native lenses like you. but i would still keep the speedbooster :)

    Thanks for sharing your thought process on this blog. The solution might be individual. But the general thoughts behind the solution picking is universal!

    and they just made a 17 f1.2. thanks for pointing that out Stan :) Thats not too far from the 15mm f0,9 i was ranting about. 35mm and 90mm is a great pair for portraiture. Its about all you need. But the price though!
