The Good Stuff.

I get all excited about buying new stuff. Then I take the old stuff out for a walk and wonder when it suddenly got so good...

My apologies. This post was supposed to be about me finding out just how good the Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens is and how going out and using it on Sunday retarded my passion to run out and get the 40mm Art lens that everyone says is currently the best lens in the universe.... I also wrote a bunch of stuff about using the lens and the S1R body together. 

But then, when posting, I accidentally posted over the good copy with an older post that had....no copy. 

If I have time this afternoon I'll try to reconstruct. But for now, these were all taken with the 35mm f1.4 and I liked the results very much. Thanks! (the non-infallible) Kirk

    When you say "old stuff" are we referring to the camera or the photographer? :) Happy Monday Mr. Tuck.

    What is that building in the third-to-last photo? Those dark marks look to me like card punch holes from the early days of mainframe computing.

    And here I thought that you were exercising a sort of abstract minimalism.

    (An influence on my thinking is how Andrew Wyeth worked up to "Groundhog Day." His sketches and studies show that he incrementally eliminated details from the scene. At a Philadelphia Art Museum retrospective several years ago, I spent probably a half hour or so on the wall given to the making of this piece.

    That last picture looks a bit mountie'ish (RCMP) to me. Not sure that a Sigma 35mm f1.4 would really count as "old" to me (how about a nice Minolta 58mm lens for example?). If you're suggesting that your garden contains enough treasures - you might be right.

    James. I think you are referring to my favorite hat. It's an SPF something that REI sells. About 20 minutes after I took that photo I ran into a 64 year old navy veteran who is now homeless. His face was RED. He told me he'd had a brush with skin cancer. He liked my hat. I gave it to him. I can buy another one, I don't think he could.

    Temporarily wearing an older hat I found in the studio. My new hat has been ordered and should be here next Wednesday. A good, wide brimmed hat is a must have in Texas. It's not only hot but it's bright!!!
