A card game hustle in the market in Rome. Trying to blend in with a big, manual focusing, medium format camera. Sometimes you just have to go for it.

  1. Kirk I was carrying a Hasselblad 500CM; a film camera, along with its heavy 100mm f3.5 Planar lens.

Ever tempted to relive your big-travel-gear days? As for me, while I appreciate experimenting with the occasional retro camera, I think I’ll stick with my D-Lux 8 when I’m on the road. Worst case, a Fuji X-T5 with a modest zoom. (Or the new X-E5, assuming I survive long enough for my ”pre-order" to ship.)

Of course, Weegee roamed the streets of New York with a 4x5 Speed Graphic and a pocketful of flash bulbs, disdaining the newfangled “miniature cameras” that shot 35mm motion picture film. But photographers were tougher in those days.

  2. That last one is super nice. Subject, composition, tones, expressions. Even the clouds.
