What I found refreshing, in taking similar landscape photos in Iceland, was the absence of power lines, telephone poles and roadside trash in most areas. In Texas one gets inured to the ugliness of most roadsides, so the absence of “the grid” was subtly startling.

The ugliness of a lot of our North American roadsides is inflicting damage to our brains in ways that we don't fully comprehend. It is like the entire culture is telling us that none of this is worth caring about.
