Yes. Yes. And I have no idea if the value proposition of a five year old camera that's still selling new for roughly $6000 is worth it to you. To me? Sure, otherwise why would I have purchased one brand new in a box, at full price, from a local Leica dealer nearly five years ago?
But here's a fun image of an older, historic building on Austin's much maligned East Sixth St. Taken with a Q2:
The first image is the full frame, reduced from eight thousand something pixels on the long end to 6000 pixels. So it fits on Blogger. And then there is a second image, just below; a crop from the same photo at 100%. Look for yourself...
100% crop.
Yeah. It's a brick wall test. But you have to cut me some slack I'm out of practice writing this blog. We had a lot of downtime this month....
I like my Q2. It's a really well done camera. And the images out of it work really well...

Brick wall tests, love it! Reminds me of the 1960/70s when I was experimenting with different color transparency film with different lenses (I had a newly acquired Nikon F courtesy of an inexperienced colleague who had succumbed to unwise temptation on a trip to Hong Kong), a Pentax spotmatic and another couple of rangefinder cameras also a motley collection of lenses. Our house had a large attached garage with old victorian brickwork in a variety of shades and a bright green painted door; alongside was a flower border containing a wide variety of different vegetation and flowering plants. I would use this subject to test out the best exposure and processing techniques to achieve the most pleasing colour and also to compare different lenses. Happy days!
Until I purchased a Q2 (used), I'd never used a wide angle lens much. It took a little adapting, but once I understood what it could do, this camera goes out with me virtually every time I go out to photograph. I've used lots of different cameras and camera brands over the last 50 years and this has to be among the very best.
I’ve had my Q2 nearly as long as you’ve had yours, Kirk. And, while I have an itch for a Q3 43, I’d simply lose too much trading in the Q2 for it. But the good news is the Q2 still delivers for me. I suspect I am personally at peak Leica right now. With the SL2, Q2, M240, M-E, D-Lux 8 and original M4 film body. I’ll continue to to use them all for the foreseeable future. But when each is done (or I am), there’ll likely be no replacement.
