From the show: Torlonia Collection: Masterpieces of Roman Sculpture
I headed to the Fine Arts Museum of Montreal in search of the Richard Avedon Immortals show. When I got to the museum and purchased my entry ticket the person on the other side of the counter asked me if I wanted to see the Roman Sculpture show. I said I did and asked if there was an additional charge I needed to pay. "Oh no. It's just that the show is very popular and we are assigning time slots. Since you are here at the opening you can go up and see the show right now if you would like." Seemed like good advice so I rode the elevator up to the fourth floor and happily browsed through what turned out to be a beautifully produced and mostly amazing show of sculpture.
I was traveling light and only brought the Sigma 45mm lens with me to shoot this kind of photography but it was more than adequate. Even at its widest aperture it's quite good. I did have the 21mm lens in my jacket pocket but it was absolutely the wrong lens to use in that moment. You can read about the show at the "More info" link above. I just wanted to share some images for you here.
If you are in Montreal during the run of the sculpture show it is well worth getting to the museum. And, from a photographer's point of view, the show was beautifully lit. ..
This is the beautiful foyer outside the exhibit.
The ample light makes the space feel very special.
After all of those mannequins, you’ve found your niche! Get Leica on the horn! Beautiful.
