For 35mm cameras and their digital descendants, the 35mm is the classic. An article by one Mike Johnston confirmed it in a magazine article I read in the '90s. I think it was based on polling photographers. I'm liking your photos lately. More faces.
One of my favourite cameras of the film era was the Olympus Stylus Epic. Lots of keepers from it, several wall prints too. For some reason, bad chemicals in my brain made me think that it had a 28 mm lens. So for years, I thought that I preferred the fov of a 28 mm lens over that of a 35 mm lens. In fact I had a set of K-mount lenses with Pentax bodies and I hardly ever used the 35 mm lens I owned for that system, so convinced I was that I did not like it. Around the time of the digital transition, the Epic died, plastic film advance gears wore out, but I remembered its "28 mm lens" with fondness. Then two years ago or so, I read a nostalgia piece about the Epic, in which its 35/2.8 lens was mentioned. It wasn't the stupidest I have felt in my life but it's probably in the top 20.

a la Winogrand ;-)
ReplyDeleteI like how it looks diagonal, but when checking carefully it shows your camera was totally horizontal
