There's a powerful argument to be made that the most effective, minimal system would consist of just on Lumix S1 body and the 24-105mm f4.0 Lumix lens... It's pretty self-contained.

The buying philosophy I seem to adhere to...

Not really an oppressive package to haul around. The kit lens is lighter than it looks.

Love being able to go from wide (above) to tight (below) without a lens change.

Nothing really amazing but when I blow stuff up and become a pixel peeper in Photoshop I am impressed by the sharpness and resolution of the 24-105mm lens. Maybe I should have just stopped there?

  1. Great post. Proving one again that it’s the journey not the destination.

  2. Dear Kirk,
If you want to go for a minimal system, how about a Sony RX10iii ou iv with its 24-600mm lens (FF equivalent)?

  3. Might have been cheaper to keep the Fuji stuff and buy a Corvette. ;)

  4. You said the same thing about the Sony RX10 cameras that you had a while back. How would the Sony compare to this setup?

  5. CRSANTIN, You could do the business of (current) photography with either. The camera no longer matters at all. The big difference is the sensor geometry and that's more a matter of taste than mandatory must have.

Hugh, Then I would have an ugly car and also be denied the dopamine hit of buying new cameras.

BratPix, Been there, done that, already. This is something new.

  6. How does it compare to the Canon 5D II + 24-105L? Which one has better ergonomics?

And more importantly, when did you color your hair that lovely shade of purple? 8^)
