The Visual Science Lab Takes a Vacation.

At the crossroads.

I've written over 400 posts in the last two years and moderated over 6,000 comments.  My readers have clicked to over 1,000,000 page views.  And it's been a fun place to write about stuff I'm interested in.  But it's time to take a couple weeks off and focus like a laser on a paying project.  To wit, I need to buckle down and finish a book I'm writing on using LED lights for photography.  I haven't missed my publisher's deadline yet but I have stepped over my own, self-imposed, deadline and I need to fix that.

In the meantime there are probably 400,000 words with attendant photos that you can catch up on.  I'll be back in a few weeks and we'll pick up where we left off.

"Don't worry.  He'll be back."

  2. Not cool dude, not cool...

    I'm just kidding, of course.

I just wanted to say thank you. Your posts have helped me to wide my photography range. From being a 100% amateur wildlife photographer, to be interested in doing portraits, experiment with artificial lighting, etc. I still do mostly wildlife, but now I enjoy learning photography doing other stuff too. And is partly thanks to your blog. Really.

    Greetings from Spain

  4. All the best with the book Kirk.

I will have to keep reminding myself not to check your blog over the next couple of weeks since it's a habit that I can't go a day without checking in what you have written.

  6. This is probably my favourite blog so I had a slight moment of panic when I started to read this post. Never having commented before it seemed like a good time to start though... I just wanted to say thanks for all the insights you give your readers - it's so useful to get into the nuts and bolts of paying jobs and you write about them so clearly and with total honesty. I can't tell you how helpful it is to someone who's starting out in a career in photography to have a resource like yours. So, good luck with the book, thanks for everything so far and I and many others will be looking forward to your return.

    Cheers.

  8. I truly enjoy your blog, a nice touch of sanity in all too often insane world, and recognize how much time and effort you put into it. I will miss your writing for the next few weeks but wish you well on your book project and will hope that maybe you'll find some down time for some fun pursuits.

  10. It just so happens that the text will be finished by friday......call me and let's talk. Need to borrow some LED's? Go to the website www.kirktuck.com, get the telephone number and give me a call. I should be here most of the morning tomorrow. Belinda chained me to the desk so I would write and not wander off and have coffee and shoot with some new and geeky camera......
