Photography was a lot more fun when we really had to work at it to make it special. I loved the process of photographing Fadya. It was fun to arrange a session, sit and chat, take frames when the spirit moved us and to make as nice an image in post production as I could without "cheating."
Well, it can be exactly as much fun as ever. Film and the needed supplies are there, the work for an image has not decreased, ^and one must be more parsimonious than ever given costs, etc. But it’s hard to shake the digital addiction, easy, available, gives quick high. Even rolling back the digital processing apps to basics without giving in to presets, etc., must seem like getting off opiates.
“Mitigating the risk of extinction from A.I. should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks, such as pandemics and nuclear war,” according to the CEOs of OpenAI, Google DeepMind and Anthropic (and 350 others in the AI field). But, what do they know.
Ooh ooh! Ask AI to do a photo of you wearing Crocs! Seriously, I think you are spot on with all of this, and really appreciate your explorations of this new technology. Thanks, great reading and is my go-to with coffee.
don't get to go for a relaxing walk firing up the AI, but must be some things it's not so much fun to photograph, AI generated blurred backdrops are probably fairly non-contentious
At the moment, AI produces cliches, and it throws a bad light on the juries of photo competitions when an AI-generated photo wins. These juries are not qualified, even less so than a Michelin test eater is for awarding stars to restaurants. But I am afraid AI will become creative in the future.

You shouldn't put quotation marks on "real." Those photographs ARE real.
Generative A.I. does not do it for me. To much like taxidermy. When I come across it in my F.B. feed, I immediately click "hide image."

I asked PS Beta to generate a picture of Kirk Tuck. What happened next was not what I was expecting.......
