A really lovely set of portraits of American Olympians from the 1948 Olympics.

  2. Absolutely love this - the vintage shots especially. Is it just me, or were people in 1948 (and people FROM 1948, in the shots from today) better than we are at being in photographs? Maybe it's that we're in such a visual culture, that we're all so studied on image-making and aware of ourselves as potential photographic subjects to be able to genuinely face the camera and be ourselves?

  3. I think that with age comes a certain comfortable elegance in high achieving people and maybe a sense of peace in most people. I think Damon Winter was wise to leave them space in which to show it.
