Clicking through was worth seeing the mention of Danny Lyon. I haven't heard of him until I read this. A search of his photos show very powerful work. Thank you.
I've been doing photo walkabouts in Dallas for years now. I find that I rarely photograph people as shapes, shades and interesting colors draw my attention more. I do, however, photograph people outdoors but I feel exploitative taking photos of people in distress.
When I was young, my fifth grade teacher, Thelma Brown, took me aside after reading some bit of output from my ten-year-old brain and said, “Whatever else you do, you must write.“ I’ve assiduously avoided that advice for the 69 years which followed. Now I see why. You write. I read.
