The museums are starting to re-open. Very carefully, but they are re-opening. I was the first visitor of the day this morning at the Blanton Museum on the UT campus. I'm posting to let Austinites know they have a renewed art option...

Ed Ruscha.

Today's brief resurfacing and museum visit brought to you by

the Lumix GX8 and the Sigma 16mm f1.4 Contemporary lens.

Thank you for posting this. I haven't been in Austin for a while, and I'm not likely to be there for another long while (or maybe ever) but this was a great post. Thank you. I miss your posts. Stay well; your family too.

It’s great to have you back, however briefly! Art museums face a tough task, trying to present a range of periods and genres in a coherent fashion. Looks like Blanton does a great job, and you’ve done fine work in presenting to us.

It seems rather empty. Are they limiting the number of people inside at any one time by reservation or just not letting it out that they're open?

Nice to see the art, especially without people blocking the view. Thanks

I visited the Blanton during my visit to Austin a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s good to see you post again but the first photo tells me not to get my hopes up.

Love Ruscha's stuff.
Looks like they've got an interesting collection.
Am never sure if I'm missing the point of minimalism...

Nice Post. Hope you're keeping well

The Philadelphia Museum of Art re-opened earlier this month, with crowd controls, temperature checks, timed tickets, etc. My wife and I enjoyed the last day of members-only previews. It was great to visit a museum again. Funny thing is, I found that I saw old familiars with new eyes, really studied pieces that previously I had just glanced at as I passed by, "oh, yeah, there's that Picasso that I stared at for many minutes 20 years ago," that sort of thing.

The PMoA is undergoing a significant inside-out renovation. Interior spaces that have been blocked out for the past 50 years are being revamped and re-opened to the public for the first time since being closed off. Architect Frank Gehry had his work cut out for him. My granddaughter, a fourth-year architecture student, has enjoyed every new revelation.

Looking forward to the time, hopefully by this time next year, that vaccines and treatments are widely available, and that life can creep back to the new "normal."

Stay well, stay safe.

Kirk

You made me look.

The Seattle Art Museum is open for limited hours and days. I need to renew my membership.

Thank you for the post. I have been a long time (daily) reader with the occasional comment. I came for the photos and stayed for the written word. You have been missed.
