Welcome to my inadvertent page re-design.

So,  I was stumbling around, adding "The Online Photographer" to my links when I fell further and further into the rabbit hole trying to figure out how to change something minor on this blog.  The next thing I knew I'd trashed my original design and couldn't seem to resurrect it.  Confounded by technology and thousands of lines of boring code I did what any self respecting luddite would do and opted to use one of the new templates.  At first I was pissed and now I'm just thankful that all my widgets and formats and such translated without major issue.

I would complain harder but it would be churlish since the service is free and, for the most part, competent. I know that none of us like change but I did resist kaleidoscopic, polychromatic backgrounds and dancing type.  If you really hate a color on a link or you vote, en masse, to change the background color, I may respond and try to keep my loyal readers happy.  But I've had enough for today and don't want to talk to my computer for a while.  Must be time for a walk with a camera.

Thanks. First comment on the new design. And wow, even the "comments" works! Very cool. Thank you for the quick response.

I like the new look too! Serendipity :-)

It's a little more eye pleasing and relaxing. Eventually the Title section could use a clean-up/redo. You could have a contest for a new one like The Online Photographer did, give away one of those extra cameras you have. : )

Looks good to me, but grey is my favorite color. I wouldn't mind the subtitle being smaller though.

I not only like it. I find it a wast improvement, much better to look at and easier to read. But you are wrong in one assumption: That people don't like change. Some, like me, thrive on it.

Simple, clean ... does the job nicely.

Kirk,
Accually the new look is very pleasing to the eye.

I like the new look too! The design is your prerogative.

I'm usually so distracted by the photo you put up that the actual page layout get's lost in the scary place that is my mind. So, now that I am trying to stay focused on the page, I think it looks pretty darn good. My opinion and a couple of bucks will possibly get you a coffee at some place nice.

Wow! I'm feeling like I should stumble around making mistakes more often! Thanks for the great feedback. I love it.

Best, Kirk

I like the layout & the colours but the fonts seem a little bit to big for my tiny laptop ... minor issue but I use it for my first post on your blog which I read with big pleasure (thanks for that!)

The "funny-cool-interesting" check boxes need to go, but otherwise, I like it well enough.

I liked it so much I changed my own layout!

Despite being an interaction designer myself, I'll have to admit I never really _noticed_ the previous design. And I probably wouldn't have noticed this one.

I read your blog for the content - both the great writing and the beautiful images. If you keep those going, I'll keep coming back :)

so much better a visually clean easy on the old eyes look.

Nice new look!

Generally it works and doesn't distract from the important stuff... the actual content. But I vote that the heading could use a little work. I found the previous one more charming. Just my two cents. In any case, I love the photo!

I like the look Kirk. As always, the main thing is the excellent stories and info that you share. Are you able to add tags? I was looking for an older post that you did re: Olympus and also for Vivitar and it would be handy if you had some tags to search by.

I like the new template: refreshing, soothing and modern. I think it's an improvement, but also liked the old one. Agree with other readers in the subtitles type being a bit too large.
Wonderful opening portrait to greet us!
Keep the great work.

Looks good. The only 'downside' I can see is that the ads are no longer in the RSS feed...

But, the content is what keeps me coming back, both the words and the pictures.

The picture is simply beautiful! As long as you keep posting great images and excellent content, you shouldn't worry about templates and such.

I like it. And it works well on the iPad, too.

I like it. For me it fixed a problem that I was having with it in Firefox where the photos would not resize. If I wanted to see the full photo I had to open it in a new window before but now it works great.

Agree with everyone that the new design is fresher and easier on the eye... but surprised that no-one else has picked out the lack of kerning between "Lab/Kirk". An 'en space' either side of the 'slash' would do the trick.
