Hello again. If you are reading this we must have survived the page view nightmare of 2025. Welcome back.
I've been back in the pool for a week and change and I'm so happy. I missed the routine, the comrades and the exercise so much. Is there a twelve step program for swimming addiction? If so I don't want to know about it...

I get asked all the time if the lens in the Leica Q2 is really sharp or not. Is it really 28mm or not. Are the files worth the high price of the camera?
Yes. Yes. And I have no idea if the value proposition of a five year old camera that's still selling new for roughly $6000 is worth it to you. To me? Sure, otherwise why would I have purchased one brand new in a box, at full price, from a local Leica dealer nearly five years ago?
But here's a fun image of an older, historic building on Austin's much maligned East Sixth St. Taken with a Q2:
The first image is the full frame, reduced from eight thousand something pixels on the long end to 6000 pixels. So it fits on Blogger. And then there is a second image, just below; a crop from the same photo at 100%. Look for yourself...
My friend, James, is brilliant and has created a huge gallery of A.I. assisted images meant to be an "answer" to the idea and practice of social media influencers.
Go here: https://jameswebb.smugmug.com/GenAI-Images
Look at the work.
Laugh, cry.
But look at the skill with which James conceives and then produces the images. It's absolutely the perfect use of A.I. tech combined with sharp and incisive social commentary.
Wow!!!

VSL Blog will be non-responsive for the rest of July. No new posts. Be sure to check back on August 1st! More info? Here's why... (Added: July30: Light at the end of the tunnel. The page view nightmare seems to be winding down...). KT
The page view mystery is out of control. We're getting over 100,000 page views per day. That would be great if they were coming from all over the place. On a typical day VSL gets less than 5,000. Mostly from visitors from US and EU locations ( according to Google ). For the last several weeks VSL has been getting 100K per day with 98.5% of them coming from Vietnam, which has never been even a small, regular source of page views.
Either something is broken at Google or something nefarious is going on. Whatever.
I'm going to turn off comments and links and leave this page up until August First. At that time I'll consider my options. I am not a web master and don't have the tools or time to hunt down this issue. If the page view count stays high I'll make the site private. You'll see a message about signing in but I won't be monitoring it or returning emails from anyone I don't know or have some VSL history with.
Problem resolves? VSL goes back to normal.
I would just delete the blog but I'd like to preserve the 6115 posts and the tens of thousands of images so taking it private, admin access only, is my option should today's strategy fail.
Might be paranoid but maybe not. I guess we'll see. In the meantime MJ has some riveting stuff about his search for an all electric car... Check it out.

How's that negative scanning coming along? Can you really make a decent black and white by rephotographing the negative? I think so.
