This image was taken, handheld, at 0.5 seconds (one half second). Not bad for a coffee addict.
This image was taken at one quarter second. (0.25). The exposure is a bit better and the detail is not bad. All in all a good performance. IS at these speeds is hit and miss.

I'd like to second your comments about image stabilization on the Nikon V1. I just got mine, based partly on your experiences with it. One of the first things I noticed is the ability to get a high percentage of keepers at slow (1/15 sec and slower) shutter speeds. I have the 10-30 mm lens. I don't remember seeing this mentioned in any of the reviews that I've read.

Did you mislabel the photographs?
NO. Check the exif.
I don't see EXIF data on either photo. But I am surprised, too, to see the 1/2 second shot looking sharper than the 1/4 one. Either way, both of those are plenty good for handheld at such slow speeds!
Kirk, to me the above pic looks sharper, look at your hairs..
Yes. The 1/2 second is sharper. When shooting at such low shutter speeds, even with VR, it is very much a numbers game. Hold the shutter button down and pick the best frame.
I'm wondering as well if you might have been moving just a teeny bit in the 0.25 sec. shot, and almost perfectly still in the 0.5 sec. shot. VR or IS won't reduce blur due to subject movement. Either way, the 0.5 sec. shot shows, IMO, that the V1's VR feature can be very effective.
Looks good. Completely incidentally, I like the shade of purple that your suit is hinting at in the first, 0.5 second shot.
