Sometimes, when you are photographing a model, it helps to create a small story to share...

Not always, but sometimes, when I work with a model to create images for our mutual portfolios it is helpful to both of us if we come up with a narrative or a short story that helps us imagine what the images are about. In this case the story was about a young woman who'd come to town to meet her old boyfriend only to be stood up. These images are from the originally intended rendezvous. We made other images outside, downtown, as she searched for her boyfriend in all the usual places. Needless to say, this was self assigned.

The venue for these images was Little City Coffee House on Congress Ave. A very early, independent coffee house in Austin which closed at the end of last year. The model is Jana and the camera was a Canon 5D mk2 fitted with an 85mm 1.8 lens.

Creating little stories seems to be more effective than lumbering around hoping something interesting will happen....

What a cool idea. I'd say you two pulled it off. Just seeing the photos my first guess would have been she had been stood up.

I find your story wildly implausible, Kirk.

What fool would stand her up?

Kirk, I feel so bad for you, having to spend all day in the company of beautiful women, forced to shoot them for hour on end. It must be hell.

Nice series though, very classical.

My days are not all fun and games. Sometimes I go out for lunch... :-)

No human being would ever stand up a girl THIS beautiful, so obviously she must have been dating E.T.
Great pictures nonetheless ;)

hmm, well I did take quite a long gaze at the photo's and let my imagination run a bit wild.... but then I focused again - what effects / pp you applying to have that classic old canon 85mm look? Silver FX? I really like the result, which partially helped me be so distracted instead of counting pixels and sharpness and ohmy artifacts must exist I must find them syndrome.
Thanks for sharing (as well the role play).
cheers

I love this series of photographs of Jana that you have been posting. Did they all start out in color and undergo a recent conversion to B&W?

Yes, they started out as color images and I did a quick conversion to black and white in SnapSeed. Thanks!

Implausible story, only because when do you ever see a young woman pensively staring off into the distance? They're all either looking down at their smartphones or talking on them every waking moment. Nice portraits though :)
