Hi, I have been an interested "lurker" for a long time, and am myself thinking about posting to Instagram....I was disappointed to learn that it is very difficult to post from the desktop.....it is oriented to posting from a phone camera......I don't shoot my stuff with my phone. How are you doing this? I know there are 3rd party apps for posting but the reviews are sketchy. Keep up the good work, thanks, JIm Scolman.

Another question worth discussing: How often should one post to Instagram? I am annoyed by people who post heaps of pictures -- that's like a conversation where somebody won't shut up and leave space for others to speak. One picture a day is enough for me.
I'm at www.instagram.com/adventure_photo. I find the easiest way to work with Instagram is to get Dropbox on your desktop as well as the app on smartphone. I work up images in LR and Photoshop, then save tiffs of finished files which then I exported a jpeg from Lightroom to Dropbox. A few seconds later, and voila I go to Dropbox app on phone, find recently uploaded image and download to camera roll from which you're now ready to upload via Instagram app.
I love Instagram, even though it's loaded with a lot of crap. It was good to see your portrait of Kinky Friedman posted. That's my favorite photo of The Kinkster. The other great thing about IG are all the sweet, curvy young women from Eastern Europe who absolutely LOVE my work.
Finallly, a good, talented photographer that I can follow on Instagram! Make sure you post lots of photos of Studio Dog, as it seems that 50 to 75% of the photos I see on that service are of animals or food.
DSLR bodies will only ultimately lose when working pros stop using them on the job: in studios, at weddings, at major sporting events, leading safari tours, covering political news. Because, marketing-wise, that drives serious amateur decisions more than they (we) would ever admit.
I use the wifi function on any of my cameras to import the image I want to my phone. I then usually post process a bit with Snapseed and/or some other app and post the image using the Insta app. Works a charm. Both Sony A7, Oly OM-D E-M1 and my various Fuji cameras work excellent this way and it's a lot of fun! For the X-Pro1 and X100, both lacking wifi, I use an Eye-Fi card. This works a bit less smooth than in-camera wifi, but it works. I must say I like Instagram a lot better now, when you are not forced to post everything in square format. Not that I mind the occasional 1:1, though. Anyway, I signed up to follow you Kirk and I like what I see :-)
Hello All, thanks for your ideas and ,advice about posting to Instagram from the desktop, for me the LR Plugin seems the way to go, except.........what do we all think about the "rights grab" Instagram makes ? One school of thought is, "If no one sees the picture then it does not exist", another goes, "Any notice is good notice", I am almost on the side of "If no one sees it......." I post to Flickr, have a Tumblr page with, to me, an amazing number of followers and reposts, and I have my own photo blog site, so people do see my shots and not just my family......so what about Instagram?......a gazillion people must be onto something. Thanks, Jim.

Then, tnargs, they are already losing as every pro I know (and I know many) is transitioning away from DSLR cameras.
