Hanging out on the ranch.

Experience tells us that some days are best spent on a quiet ranch, away from the random chaos of life and commerce. A few thousand acres of private land seems to be a nice cure for too much social media. Spend it with an interesting singer/songwriter and a camera and it's like a mini-vacation for the mind.

I only wish the resident chef had not taken the day off...

Kirk, your "Texas Girl" series is among my favorites. Colors, shadows, tones, expressions ... all draw me into the scene and make me want to go there. I never get tired of looking at those images. And the series is where you said something that, to me, put everything into perspective: "Lenses trump cameras. Lighting trumps lenses. Gesture trumps lighting. A good idea, well executed wins the hand." Thanks for this post!

Agreed.
I like to periodically tune out, turn off and mentally defrag :). In Australia it’s called ‘going bush’.
Also like to go camping from time to time - you learn to appreciate life without the negative news and being digitally connected. Plus when you return home you appreciate your First world comforts like your own bed and pillow, hot running water and flushing toilets.
Cheers

She's great. A subject like this makes photography compelling and easy. Thanks for sharing. I return to your blog now and again and love it. Hope to find myself in Texas again and buy you a couple rounds ;)
