My new Pentax camera(s) are NOT perfect....

Maybe that's why I seem to like them....

So. 36 megapixels. Old tech/DSLR. No big selection of current lenses. A bit heavy. Kinda bulky. But oh so cute and formidable looking. I'm having a blast shooting "old school." I bought a second body just in case.... I think I'm good on lenses for now....

An interesting counterpoint to the Fujis, for sure.

Any Pentax users out there? Have you played with the K1?

As you might remember I have your same cameras, an x-h1 and a k1. The K1 is a pleasure in its own way. I prefer its color and richness for landscapes. I end up fiddling with Fuji file white balance a little more with lots of green in the shot. Only two lenses match any of my Fuji lenses though in terms of modern sharpness, the 50 macro and the DFA 50 1.4. The latter seems perfectly tuned to the k1.

I've had a Pentax K1 since it's release, still somewhat torn as to whether I should have gone for a mirror-less full-frame or not but at the time the price of the K1 was much more competitive.

I'm actually having a lot of fun with film, developing B&W and color negatives at home. I've been using a Pentax MZ-S so I can share the lenses! The K1 has been relegated to a role as an excellent negative scanner (especially with the pixel-shift resolution)!

Kirk, I had the K-5, K-3 and then the K-3 II Pentax DSLRs but sold them and replaced them with the Fujifilm X-T2 and the X-Pro2. I needed higher ISO, lower light capability and a silent camera for indoor work around people. After the shutter curtain stuck in my X-T2 I decided to try the K-1 II for use outdoors based on your experiences. Thank you! Now I am back to enjoying a Pentax camera. I have the 28 - 105mm and the 50mm F1.4 lenses but I would like a wider prime lens for use on the street.

For a minute I thought we were using a Pentax 6x7 - truly old school.

Hello, Kirk. I've been using Pentax for years. Have the K-1, 20-40, 50 FA macro, 50/1.4FA, 100 macro, and the 77/1.8...only lenses I would recommend.

Enjoy your blog daily.

Hello Kirk,

The K1 is far from flawless but gets the job done. The Raw files are great, the Jpeg not so much. Find the lenses that fit your style and maybe you'll like it a lot. Whatever float your boat.

So far, the 31ltd, the DA*55, FA*85 are great. The tamron 70-200 gets the job done too.

I'm also using a K-1, which I had upgraded to the Mark II version as the K1 Mark II firmware seems more likely to be upgraded for the foreseeable future. I have a KP and a K-5 IIs as backup cameras for the K1. Oh, and M43 Pen-F for those times when easy portability is in order and 5x7 for those times when I want to do (scanned) BW film.

I do most of my photography work(press and documentary) with the panasonic gh5. but recently i started to use more and more the pentax k1 mark ll. while i dont have the same lens variety, i love to work with what i've got so far. the old lenses are great and make the k1 special, at least for me. i kind like these combinations. the 28-105 is a nice glass too, i loved your pictures from the walks. they inspired me to continue and to go further. the magic is there. now i also have to think about getting a second body...
and kirk; thank you for all the interesting inputs and comments all over these years!
