Thanks for the inspiration to make this nice photograph of my favorite old Nikon camera. And lens.

Body from the 60's. Lens from the 70's.

Beautiful shot of a Nikon F.

I guess those that don't have any success of their own spend their time critiquing other people's choices.

Entertaining read, Kirk.

Thanks Craig. Appreciate it.

Always amazed at what people think is appropriate to say. We"re "going to hell in a handbasket", as the old saying goes.

Hang in there, Kirk, Illegitimi non carborundum

Funny, I always thought you worked with a rather small gear kit for a pro.

Lately my eyes have been glazing over when the discussion turns to new cameras and lenses, but that's just me. Great Nikon F though!

I used to love reading hifi magazines back in the 1980s, and a favorite column was "Audio, etc" in which Edward Tatnall Canby would write about nothing-much month after month, but he had a real flair for it. But the equipment reviews? Occasionally useful at the time, but mostly forgotten now.

I am a little confused, how did their email end up in your inbox?

I read a short story when I was a bit about a girl who came across an enchanted ring. It have the wearer the ability to hear the thoughts of others... As you can imagine what first appeared to be a gift, turned quickly to a curse.

I have found people today to struggle in taking pleasure in others happiness or success. It seems to go hand in hand with their lack of tolerance for things they personally disapprove of. Combined it makes a very miserable bunch.

You only live once Kirk, as I watch my father deal with illness and age it is teaching me how quickly it passes...

Here is a link to a song I heard in 1999, it changed my life and I share it like a gospel with friends and family... Sit down, relax, and take in the simple wisdom.

You clearly need an intervention, Kirk. :o)

Oh ye sinner! Repent!

You are forgiven Mr.T. Anyone who can still express love for a Nikon F with a 50/1.4 really does have a soul. I won't mention the uncanny resemblance to the Fuji X-T; that would be unkind to the newly repented.

You now have heavenly and earthly approval to retrieve all those sinful goodies from Goodwill and press on to Hong Kong to play ping pong. I've heard they have great deals on that heinous and sinful camera gear .... OOOPPPPSS, forget I said that.

Funny! (But ... Wait! Wha hoppen to your tender meditation on modern life?)

Also funny: This afternoon, as I worked on preparing the vegetable beds for the winter, I heard the Prime van pull into my neighbor's driveway. I felt jealous. I LIKE getting stuff delivered to me. Have since I was a kid. Lone Ranger decoder rings and stuff. Maybe that's the motivation that resulted in a pile of (unused) cameras and lenses of all ages and descriptions? (keep an eye on eBay - I'm unloading!)

I originally wrote a post about an email, mistakenly sent to me but about me was less than charitable. Apparently some people are opposed to other people having the right to change camera systems whenever they want to; or to buy additional cameras at will. I decided that we'd gone far enough and toned this post down to reflect the passing of emotions engendered. I should add to my usual disclaimer, "Don't tell me what I can't buy!"

Will the Zach posts, the two cat in the hat posts and the Christmas Carol, be coming back?

I saw Janis Joplin at the Filmore west on the night of Dec. 30th, 1967 and never once felt even the slightest urge to tell her what she shouldn't be buying.

Well today Sigma did it. They announced a 24-70mm f2.8 lens in their L-mount, next to Panasonic 24-70mm f2.8 lens. This is a big deal as I think it marks the freedom in the L-mount, and we can see whatever Sigma or Panasonic want.
This makes the L-mount more interesting to me, just like M43rds.

My first SLR was one of these Nikon F. I bought it in 1981 in a plastic bag, wet on the inside with salt water!
It had been used in a leaking UW case. I pulled it all apart and got the rusty parts replaced with parts I got from Nikon Service.
It still runs fine and I use it every once in a while with good old Tri-X and other such.
Sent it to Sover Wong many years ago to have it perfectly tuned and it came back better than original! If only the same could be said of digital cameras... ;)
