Somehow, they are now the largest company ever, according to financial news. And that's despite me owning none of their products - although, of course, that may now change having seen the video!
Having worked for Apple in the 90's I now cringe at the marketing of their products and the gullibility of the current user. Great vid, really sums it all up!
Funny as hell, and asutely observed ! However, let's not spit in the soup, as we say in France. Mac computers are the only ones I've ever enjoyed using, and I tried to replace my iPhone with a popular Android based smartphone a little ago. 3 days of sheer hell later I was back screaming in Mama Apple's arms. Let's face it, Apple have very sleek marketing (almost to the point of sleeziness) but they also make really good, usable product. Granted, my life certainly would be a lot less virtual if I had to use a Windows and a Galaxy, heaven forbid... Photos with my phone ? Thanks, but no thanks.
Great stuff... it reminds me that I just took some smashing shots of my dinner last night while the wife and I weren't talking. Gee the only way I can top all this off is to post three shots at 400% over on the forums at dpreview :)
It is a joke, but also it isn't. Apple actually does market research, and makes their products for people to use. If people want better cat videos, that is what Apple gives them.
Nikon and Canon are laughing now, but if you look at their current crop of "me too" super-zoom compacts, Apple could destroy the big-boy's camera market as easily as they destroyed the market share of Nokia.
Even as we speak, all the big camera companies are working hard on design improvements so minor that the iPhone 4 looks like a revolution by comparison. Is anyone rushing out to buy a Nikon J2? How about a Canon SX500?
I understand why full-frame cameras cost more, but why is it $2000 more? Why not just $1000 more? I am not a huge fan of Apple products, but if they came out with a FF camera that looked like the "iPhone 5" in the joke, I would buy it.
For all those people who think Nikon and Canon can just sit on their market share, and ignore what customers really want, I have two words: "Sony Walkman".
It's really simple -- most people don't a damn about photography!!
All they want to do is document what's important to them at this particular moment and then upload it to SpaceFace+. And what is important to them changes from moment to moment ... and they never make prints.
Photography may be your hobby, but it isn't everyone's hobby. Give a 1Dx or a D4 to many people and all they would do is use it for a door stop.
I get that people use mobile devices to take photos of the moment and upload them quickly to the site of their choice. But I cannot think of a more unergonomic device to carry around and take photos with than an iPAD. I can understand using an iPHONE or iPOD for that purpose. They are reasonably compact. Even I, on occasion, use my Blackberry to take photos if one of my cameras is unavailable. Using an iPAD to take photos, especially given that it has a small digital sensor, is similar to using an old Crown Graphic with a 35mm adapter to shoot on 35mm film, or a large DSLR that has a 1/2.5" sensor.
Sadly, what you say about the 1Dx and D4 is probably correct. Someone asked if they could try taking a few shots with my then-new DSLR. He couldn't figure out how to use the camera's very-fine OVF. I eventually put the camera into live-view mode, and he took a few shots using the "dirty stinky diaper hold" before handing the camera back to me.
Took this on the Victoria to Vancouver ferry the other day. I told my daughter that people would have laughed and laughed in the past at someone using something so huge to take a photo, but it works so people use it.
I like how "Apple" left the door open for an "S" upgrade: that'll be the one that allows you to "like" photos and their comments from the rear screen...

I'm sure that DPR already has one for review and it won't be long before a discussion thread about its high ISO performance, or lack thereof.
I'm also sure that I heard that it was tested at the Olympics, hidden in a Canon 1 body.
Boy, I can hardly wait - this really changes the whole face of photography and the way forward.

I loved it but I didn't see it as an indictment of Apple as much as a wry commentary on some segments of the population. Love me the Apple gear...
