  1. Like listening to the Beatles, I suppose. Start with 45s, get big vinyl then CDs. Step up your gear as you go - then find it all fits on mp3 and a tiny phone. Still sounds amazing though!

And if you only listen to the Beatles, you will find yourself talking to a smaller audience. Get used to happy nods followed by eye-rolling departures from those who love the Beatles but found other bands in the 70s and beyond..

  2. Good analysis from the "ancient past" :) The only quibble I have is re. "Cameras are and will get smaller and lighter. The lenses will get smaller and lighter and easier to carry around." It would appear that FF being the anointed king-of-the-hill is bucking that trend- whether it really takes hold, we'll have to see.

  3. Connectivity to smart phones is a big deal. At live music shows I take photos in RAW format and upload to my phone between sets. A couple of minutes in LR mobile, and then I post on Instagram with hashtags for the venue and the musicians. Feedback is always positive. The immediacy is important. The venues know that it brings in more people for the second and third sets. And musicians like the real time exposure on social media. I'm over 60 years old. Young people shrug at the immediacy because they take it for granted. Many others my age don't have a clue why I bother doing it. And, btw, many of my most popular photos have significant subject movement and focus issues that decrease sharpness. Yet they have a powerful message and story to tell.

  4. I chatted with you briefly at the Samsung booth in 2013. (And have a couple of blurry pictures of you setting up reflectors.) My mission then was to check out Samsung's take on a camera that was also usable as a phone. Nice idea, but clunky.

I did buy a Samsung camera the following year ... it was inside a Galaxy S4 phone. Still no cigar.

Just upgraded to a Samsung S10. Quelle difference! It's leading me to put my ridiculous collection of cameras and lenses to some serious questioning. Some things already in the hands of eBay buyers.
